The album was released on August 29, 2021, through GOOD Music, and was distributed by Def Jam Recordings. the album was named after West’s late mother, Donda West.
This album was supposed to drop on July 24, 2020, however it was postponed indefinitely. Multiple sources, including Def Jam, stated that the album will be released on July 23, 2021; but, the album remained unreleased on that date.
Abou “Bu” Thiam, West’s manager, also confirmed latter that the date. The album be released on August 29 after listening party on August 27 at Soldier Field.

The album has production assistance from Kanye West, Dem Jointz, Digital Nas, 88 Keys, Gesaffelstein, Mike Dean and Wheezy.
